Rant By Mike Perry (Originally appeared in the August 2010 issue of Print) While my brother was in school studying to be a biomedical engineer, we would sit around and discuss some of the wonders he was learning about. One day, the scientific method came up in conversation, and it really stuck out to me. What impressed me about it was that there were checks and balances built into the system; once the experimental work is published, the community of researchers checks to make sure that everything is legitimate. This is something that we don’t have in design.
